This is the first American Edition (third printing) of The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien (edited by Christopher Tolkien). Published by the Houghton Mifflin Company in 1977 (the British version was published by George Allen & Unwin)
This copyof the Silmarillion is in good, vintage condition (especially considering it's almost 50 years old now). The dust jacket is in fair shape, but the book itself is quite good. No writing, highlighting, etc to the pages. The map is still in the back of the book.
Tolkien is of course most famous for the classic, bestselling novels The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but the Silmarillion is the work that really covers the complete scope of the world he created.
